Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning FAQ.

Why should I have my carpets cleaned?

Carpets work like a filter within your home, they collect airborne dust, allergens as well as soil and grit that come in on your shoes or pets. Professional carpet cleaning not only removes the deep down dirt and allergens that even the best commercial vacuum cleaner cannot reach, but also improves the appearance and feel of your carpet, extending it's lifespan protecting your investment. Deep-down soiling can break your carpet fibres when walked upon severely shortening the life of your investment. Pets and children contribute to the level and speed of soiling.

How often should I have my carpets cleaned?

It is recommended that you have your carpets professionally cleaned every 12 months and certainly before signs of soiling occur. We all love our pets, but have you ever stopped to think what they may bring into your home on their paws? I cannot remember the last time our cat wiped his paws on the way in! If you live on your own or you're a couple without pets or children, 12 to 18 months may be suitable. You should consider the foot or paw traffic in your home, or let us carry out a free survey for you.

What is the PAS 86:2008 standard for carpet cleaning?

PAS 86:2008 Professional inspection, maintenance, cleaning and restoration of textile floor coverings code of practice.
The Publicly Available Specification (PAS) has been developed by the National Carpet Cleaning Association (NCCA) in collaboration with BSI British Standards.
PAS 86:2008 gives the recommendations for the inspection, maintenance and cleaning of textile floor coverings.

Do I Need Protection?

Absolutely; to help protect your freshly cleaned carpets and upholstery from future spots and stains, we recommend the application of a stain protector.

When a stain protector is applied, it helps protect fibres by creating an invisible barrier, this invisible barrier allows more time to deal with a spill before it may become a stain. We also provide a 30 day* spot and stain warranty, in addition to your free bottle of professional spot and stain remover.

If you have the misfortune of having a mishap within 30 days, we will return to you free of charge and deal with the stain*. Your supplied free bottle of professional spot and stain remover will help limit the staining until we get to you. You may even be able to remove the stain without our assistance.

* 30 day warranty includes up to three call outs (T&C apply), ask for details.

I have heard that after cleaning, carpets can resoil quicker, is this true?

This is a possibility using traditional carpet cleaning solutions, or when the rinsing procedure is not completed effectively. Our natural solutions, only require rinsing with plain water or occasionally, a mild acidic rinse to help remove stains and residues, thereby eliminating rapid re-soiling.

Advanced stain removal - Can my unsightly stains be removed?

Stains that can be removed include everyday items like, tea, coffee, wine, soft drinks, ink, oil, make-up, candle wax, urine, vomit, blood, oil and grease. More stubborn stains include chewing gum, soot, draught marks, paint and nail varnish. It is important to note that many factors will influence complete and successful removal, previous attempts with an "off the shelf" product can "set" the stain and even damage carpet fibres making removal more complex. Other factors may also influence the final result**.

We carry a large range of professional solutions specifically designed to deal with stains of a specific nature. These can be used individually or if the stain requires more complex removal, they may be used in combination with each other.

How long will my carpets take to dry?

Your carpets are usually dry within a couple of hours. Our modern machines efficiently remove nearly all of the water used during the rinsing process. Our purpose designed fans hasten the drying process. We also supply disposable plastic covers for your slippers just in case you need to walk on the carpet before fully dry.

I have had a cheaper quote.

When comparing us to other companies, there is more than just the price to consider. Are they and do they continually invest in training and also equipment? Do they have the correct insurance to protect you and the items being cleaned if something happens? Do they adhere to a thorough cleaning process that has been detailed to you or may they cut corners and complete a sub-standard clean? We adhere to our comprehensive cleaning process. Each of the steps are as crucial as the others, not completing just one of these will result in a sub-standard clean.

Do I have to remove all of my furniture from the room?

No, generally, we are able move furniture within a room enabling us to clean and then move it back to it's original position, unless we feel that the item is too heavy to move without risk of injury. Furniture to be moved should be previously cleared of all items. We do not move television / entertainment units due to the amount of cabling that is connecting to these items. Any items that we feel may be a problem will be discussed with you during the survey**.
Upon completion, we place foil pads or blocks under furniture as necessary to isolate your furniture from any residual moisture in the carpet until fully dry. This enables us to place your furniture in it's usual position before we leave.

I want my carpets cleaned but the areas are in constant use, can they be dry more quickly?

Yes, Low Moisture Cleaning (LM or Encapsulation) and Very Low Moisture (VLM or dry powder) have the advantage that they can be ready for use in as little as 30 minutes, the disadvantage is that these methods tend not to be suitable for carpets that have high soiling levels. They are ideal for walkways, corridors and other areas that can not be taken out of service for the drying period required for wet extraction cleaning.

I am coming to the end of my tenancy, do you offer a discount for an empty property?

Yes, assuming your property is empty, we are able to offer a discounted rate as there is no furniture to move. Same great service, great lower price.

What is dander?

Dander is the term used to describe flakes of skin and other materials shed from the human body and animals (pets). It is microscopic and transported through the home in house dust. It is also the diet of the house dust mite. Dander is an irritant and when air born can cause allergies.

I have a fresh stain on my carpet, what should I do?

While there are numerous DIY stain remedies available, the best advice I can give you is this; Do not scrub or rub, do not use any kind of household or off the shelf stain removal product. The following procedures will help limit the damage until we can attend and deal with the stain professionally.

  • Solids - remove as much of the spilt product as possible, use the back of a knife, working gently from the outside to the centre removing the solid.
  • Liquids - place damp folded, white kitchen towel or a white towel over the stain to 'wick' up the liquids or residues.
  • Pollens - it is very important not to touch pollen on a carpet or fabric to avoid permanent staining. Simply place the end of a vacuum a few millimetres above the pollen to extract.
